Enhance your executive presence with deliberate intent.

Everyone has a presence. The question is, do you have an executive presence?

Even if you don’t consider yourself an executive, you can gain a lot of value from the principles that apply to executive presence development.

Why? The skills you develop from enhancing your executive presence lead to more confidence. That confidence leads to growth. That growth leads to career advancement.

In an interview on the High Noon Live on LinkedIn with Financial Technology Specialist, Tyrone Naidoo,  I asked him what executive presence meant to him. He gave me one powerful word as a tool that he uses to enhance his presence: deliberate.

Be deliberate in everything that you do.

You can use this word to enhance your executive presence in multiple ways.

Explore being deliberate

Be deliberate at a networking event:

  • Do you have business cards with you? Yes, business cards give you substance. Use them deliberately!

  • Are you dressed and groomed to impress? Your appearance should enhance your confidence.

  • Are you having conversations with new people? Instead of staying in your bubble of comfort and familiarity.

  • Are you giving deliberate handshakes? An open palm with a firm grip is a strong foundation for a confident connection.

  • Are you making and sustaining eye contact? Nothing says confidence and connection like eye contact.

  • Are you deliberately repeating the names of new contact? In order to remember their names to build extra rapport.

Be deliberate at meetings:

  • Are you listening to learn? Even when all the distractions are calling your name.

  • Are you consciously asking questions and engaging in a critical manner? Establish yourself as someone who is curious to explore.

  • Are you deliberately 5 to 10 minutes early? Hereby you position yourself as someone who is on time and respectful of others' time.

  • Are you keeping to the point? To be clear and concise means that you are prepared.

  • Are you setting clear boundaries in the meeting? Hereby engaging deliberately to meet the intentions for the most valuable meeting experience.

Call to action

Take 3 minutes to write down what you want to still achieve by the end of this year. This will help you be deliberate in your priorities.

When you are deliberate, your communication will be deliberate,  your confidence will enhance and you will craft your executive presence.
